Eland recommends...

Eland has, quite unwittingly, become a travel information centre. Customers and journalists ring up, win our attention by praising our books then progress to the real issue at hand: the address of a reliable Moroccan travel agent, whether northern Mali is safe, which book they should give their niece who is travelling to Argentina in 24 hours, where to acquire an Indian tent or the address of a good bookshop within walking distance of their hotel in Istanbul.

In the process of responding - while also gently trying to redirect the conversation back to an Eland title - we have been also building up a store of knowledge which now gets transferred to our website. You can now look up our hand-picked selection of bookshops, in Britain and abroad, recommended travel agents, learned societies, seminars, cultural tours, travel-writing courses, as well as festivals, weather and Indian tents at any time of the day or night - free from any referrals, product-endorsements, commission kick-backs or advertising.

We have also added a non-Eland travel book store - titles that we admire but have been produced by other publishers, bought second-hand, picked up at the end of their print-run at a trade-only remainder fair or that we once reviewed. Stock levels are very variable, so they are sold on a first come, first served basis.
