The Eland website, from March 2010, is able to offer a limited number of imported copies of the “Diaries of an Egyptian Princess” to its readers. This handsome 300 page hardback is packed full of photographs of the glamorous old ruling house of Egypt and has just been published by Sherif Boraie in Cairo. The book has been edited from the diary of Princess Nevine Halim (assisted by that of her mother and grandmother) to take us on a journey from one world war to the next, from Egypt to Europe to the USA, from a world of privilege to social pariah. We meet her father, the handsome Prince Abbas Halim, who fought for the Ottoman Empire, who championed the poor and would clash with his cousin, the King of Egypt. Though undeniably expensive, we have just fifty copies in the office to sell from the original, and limited print-run. |
